A day full of fish

They had the twitchbaits worked out quickly and we caught the first thick perch. It was good to see how fast the two of them picked up the techniques and really started catching. Here and there we picked off a small pike, some zander and a few more perch.

One thing they had taken from their sea bass fishing is changing lures frequently. They did the same aboard. Sometimes a change like that turned out to be a golden move and produced a fish immediately. As a guide you do not only teach your guests something, you can learn from them too. Understanding exactly when to change lure or technique is something that will genuinely bring you more fish. When do you persist and when do you switch? That is an instinct that comes with experience, and something I find fascinating and think about a lot.

Since that day I have changed lure, color or technique more often when I am on a spot where I know fish are sitting. An active fish will take your lure quickly once it notices it.

It turned into a wonderful day. Good weather, very good catches on several techniques and good company. We had a handful of beautiful perch, a number of good sized zander and a whole lot of pike between 60 and 90 cm. Secretly the two of them would have liked to meet an enormous pike. Sadly that did not happen, but perhaps the three of us will go after that another time.
