The early bird catches the worm

It was going to be warm that day, so we had planned only a half day. The aim was to freestyle and see what would work. The water was running hard and the color had changed a little compared to the week before.

On the first spot we started with shads. I prefer to start on the subtle side before going over the top with noisier lures. A lure with a lot of vibration can also put fish off. Eric made the first cast and the rod was already bent double. A beautiful perch came up and it was a new personal best straight away. You cannot start the day much better than that.

I fished along that morning and soon caught a good perch myself. Not long after that came a pike and a zander. Later in the morning, while we were casting plugs, the cherry on an already fine cake announced itself. Or so we thought, because after a brief exchange of looks with a thick zander the trebles came loose and she swam off. A shame, that would have been another personal best for Eric, and a serious one.

It kept getting warmer, the current dropped away and the wind gave up too. Time for us to stop as well. Sometimes you do not need long to have success, you just need to know where to be and at what time.
